With ‘’Lead the Movement’’ motto, the first ‘Physical Activity Leadership Program’ was held with the family physicians who came together at the Wyndham Kalamis Hotel in Istanbul on 13-14 December 2014.
With the participation of 43 family physicians from different cities of Turkiye; at the first meeting of ‘Physical Activity Leadership Program’, the ‘Exercise is Drug Program’ which had been implemented in many countries was launched.
‘’We started off to lead the movement and we gathered with our voluntary family physicians under the title of Physical Activity Leader in order to create a more active Turkiye. With this program, and with the help of our leaders, I think we had the opportunity to share our messages about the fact that physical activity should be adopted as a part of everyday life and that everyone has an appropriate physical activity path. We shared the messages with the population of about 170.000 people our leaders contact. We have a lot to do with our leaders whose number will increase every day.’’ said Professor Dr. Haydar Demirel.
During the two-day program, Professor Dr. Haydar Demirel presented physical activity recommendations for different profiles and introduced the Exercise is Drug Program. Demirel emphasized the importance of prescribing physical activity as a drug as a part of the treatment, and summarized in the following words that each profile has a suitable physical activity: ‘’ It is not necessary to wear sportswear and walk in the walking track to do physical activity. A regular walk is also a physical activity when the person is going to work. ‘’
Leaders created Physical Activity Leadership Manifest!
The physical activity leaders who discussed four different topics such as how to communicate the physical activity between physicians, how physical activity should be transferred to individuals, what the working principles of the ‘Exercise is Drug’ promotion team should be, how physical activity can be found in the intense agenda of family physicians; created Physical Activity Leadership Manifest.
Physical Activity Leaders in the morning walk!
In the activity on the coast road, physical activity leaders walked and exercised in company with the trainers. In the tent pitched; the leaders who shared the physical activity suggestions with the residents, treated green apples to the walkers.
What did the leaders say about the Physical Activity Leadership Program, where 92% of participants rated it as very successful?
It was the most successful organization I have ever attended, including all national congresses I attended to date.
Dr. Emel Öztürk / Eskisehir
I feel very lucky to attend the Physical Activity Leadership Program. I was thinking that exercise should become a part of community culture for a while. It made me very happy to know that there is a team that thinks about this subject and carries out studies. Exercise is a necessity, exercise is a culture.
